Do I Have To Take Finasteride 1 Year Prior to Surgery?

I am a 36 year old man whose hair loss began when I was 19. I feel the progression of my hair loss has subsided at least 5 years ago. The proven results of HT being what they are today, I am ready to undergo a procedure. As I am currently not taking any prescriptions, do you require me to take finasteride for a year before I can schedule a surgery?— W.M.

Thanks for the question W.M.
We do not require that you be on finasteride for a year prior to hair transplant surgery. We do require that you stop taking any drug containing ASA (such as Aspirin) 2 weeks prior to surgery, because these drugs thin the blood and cause too much bleeding during surgery.

If you are thinking of having a procedure, I encourage you to visit BaldTruthTalk Hair Transplant Forum or Hair Transplant Network Hair Loss Forum to learn from others who have had a hair transplant.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact Hasson & Wong Hair Transplant Clinic at 1.800.859.2266 to speak with one of our consultants. Both of our consultants were patients prior to becoming consultants and are can answer most any question you have about hair transplantation.
